Maewo has a population of approximately 3,000 which is served by the two medical centres at the north and south of the island. Drinking water supplies are poor at both locations leading to approximately 15% of presentations at the medical centres being water related.

The Trunz Water System units were very well received and within one hour of the unit being in operation there were queues of people waiting to fill up water containers.
